MINUTES

| CALL TO ORDER | The Mill Valley School District Board of Trustees, acting as the Governing Board of the Mill Valley School District, met in special session at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, February 16, 2005, at Mill Valley Middle School, 425 Sycamore Avenue, Mill Valley, CA. President Reynolds called the meeting to order at 5:40 PM. |
| CLOSED SESSION | As there was no public comment, the meeting was recessed to Closed Session at the District Administrative Office, 411 Sycamore Avenue, Mill Valley, CA. The Board met with Superintendent Young to consider Public Employee Performance Evaluation; Title: Certificated; Administrative (Gov. Code §54957). |
| RECONVENE & REPORT | Ms. Reynolds reconvened the meeting to Public Session at 7:00 PM and announced that the Board had met in Closed Session until 6:25 PM, at which time a dinner recess was taken. She reported that no action was taken in Closed Session. |
| PERSONNEL - Supt. Search Planning |
Ms. Reynolds outlined the process for this meeting, which was scheduled as part of the search process for a new superintendent. She introduced Jake Abbott and Jim Brown, Leadership Associates (LA) consultants who will be conducting the search. The Board provided the consultants the characteristics they desired in a new superintendent. Mr. Abbott reviewed the proposed timeline for interviewing staff, parents and community members regarding characteristics desired; approval of a brochure; the interview process and other board protocols during the search. The Board requested that the consultants condense input from staff, parents and community to a two-page summary. LA will also provide the Board with full transcripts of input received. After Board and audience discussion, the Board took the following action regarding the interview process for final candidates. |
| - Motion: Interview candidates | - M/S/C Swartz/Khademi (4-1 Freiberg nay) to conduct board-only interviews with candidates for superintendent, with consultants to incorporate community input on potential questions to present to candidates. |
| RECESS TO CLOSED SESSION | Ms. Reynolds recessed the meeting to Closed Session at 9:23 PM to give direction to Leadership Associates regarding confidential matters related to superintendent recruitment. |
| RECONVENE & REPORT | Ms. Reynolds reconvened the meeting to Public Session at 9:50 PM and announced that no reportable action was taken in Closed Session. |

ADJOURNMENT |
Ms. Reynolds announced that the next regular meeting of the Board will be on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 7:00 PM at the Mill Valley School District Administrative Office and adjourned the meeting at 9:50 PM . |
