| CALL TO ORDER |
The Mill Valley School District Board of
Trustees, acting as the Governing Board of the Mill Valley School
District, met in regular session at 7:00 PM on Monday, November 13, 2000
at Mill Valley Middle School, 425 Sycamore
Avenue, Mill Valley, CA. President Spencer called the meeting to order
at 7:02 PM and announced that Mr. Khademi was absent due to a scheduling
conflict. |

| SPECIAL RECOGNITIONS |
Superintendent Young commended Quinn
Collor for his dedication and leadership in establishing the new
elementary PE program. |
COMMUNICATIONS
Public
- teacher negot. |
Prior to public comment, Ms. Young
recognized the school community for its high level of commitment to
helping find other solutions to issues facing teachers and the
district. Ms. Young added that all communications regarding
negotiations would be made jointly by the District and the Mill Valley
Teachers Association (MVTA). She then read the following: "Joint
Statement from the Mill Valley School District and the Mill Valley
Teachers Association Regarding Mediation; November 7, 2000; The parties
met November 7th with a state mediator and are continuing to meet on
November 28th with financial representatives from the Association and
the District to exchange and discuss fiscal information." Teachers
Amy Faulkner, David Selzer, Tim Donovan and Rilla Chaney made presentations
and/or comments to
the Board regarding teacher negotiations. In response to a parent
question, it was stated that the recent report by the Fiscal &
Crisis Management Assistance Team (FCMAT), a state agency, will be
discussed along with the budget at the December 11 board meeting.
Final copies of the report will be sent to schools as soon as it is
available. |
| Superintendent Report |
Superintendent Young recognized
teachers Adam Sanchez and Bettie Mansen, along with former teacher Diana
Verrue, for their dedication to the Shelter Hill Study Hall. Ms.
Young reported that funding grants may allow the study hall to apply
for matching funds from the Marin Community Foundation. Ms. Young
thanked the teachers for their support in defeating Prop. 38. Ms.
Young also reported that the State has changed the spring testing dates;
thanked Angel Bernal of the MVPD for organizing an effort for parents to
report on traffic concerns; reported that Mill Valley resident John
Mergendoller is the new executive director of the Buck Institute for
Education; reported that a local political action committee regarding
educational issues is being formed; that a task force has been formed to
look at supporting teachers in housing; and announced that interviews for a
new CBO will be on November 20th. |

Ms. Kennedy reported that she and Ms.
Young recently visited a model pre-school-grade 12 special education program
in San Diego; asked that a trustee
represent the district at the upcoming School District Organization
meeting; reported that she will be attending a State Special Education
Commission meeting in Long Beach. Mr. Freiberg reported on recent
teacher housing support task force meeting. |

PIP update |
Juanita deSanz reported on the District's
Primary Intervention Program (PIP), in which all K-5 schools now
participate. Ms. deSanz was thanked for her dedication to this
program over the past four years. |

Computer & Technology
Specialists MaryBeth Kampman and Rosie Macho provided an update on tech
staff development in the district. |
| MS math program |
Middle School Principal Kit Gabbard
presented a Middle School math update, with input also provided by math
teachers Lorenz Marti, Molly McDonald and David Selzer. |

approve site plans for 2000-01 for Edna Maguire, Middle and Old Mill
