Special Meeting No. 1 - July 17, 2002
MINUTES

Members Present: Jeffrey Freiberg, Monib Khademi, Brian Swartz
Members Absent: Len Gensburg, Paula Reynolds
Administrator: Barbara Young, Superintendent
1. CALL TO ORDER The Mill Valley School District Board of Trustees, acting as the Governing Board of the Mill Valley School District, met in special session at 8:00 AM on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at Mill Valley School District Office, 411 Sycamore Avenue, Mill Valley, CA.   President Freiberg called the meeting to order at 8:05 AM and announced that Mr. Gensburg and Ms. Reynolds were absent.
2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA M/S/C Khademi/Swartz (3-0) to approve agenda as written.
3. COMMUNICATIONS TO BOARD Ms. Young reported that most of the programs that were to be cut due to lack of funds have been restored.  The Challenge Campaign funds are at about $1.1 million to date, which includes outstanding pledges.
4. BUILDINGS & SITES
A. MS Easement/City of MV
The City of Mill Valley needs an easement along Camino Alto from Sycamore Avenue north to the Community Center, in order to rehabilitate and maintain the sidewalk.  
- Motion: Easement M/S/C Khademi/Swartz (3-0) to grant an easement to City of Mill Valley for Multi-Purpose Pathway on Camino Alto.
B.1. MS Improvement - geotechnical work Ms. Young explained concern about some of the sinkholes being encountered during the MS site improvement work, with recommendation that geotechnical work be conducted at this time.
- Motion: Treadwell/Rollo contract M/S/C Swartz/Khademi (3-0) to approve contract with Treadwell/Rollo for geotechnical work, for $4100.
B.2. Paver project bid The concerns around the stairwells and the courtyard at Middle School, including settling and drainage, were explained.  Using pavers, instead of asphalt, will improvement the access and other concerns.  Bauman Landscape, Inc. has submitted a proposal for this change in the project.
- Motion: Bauman proposal for pavers at courtyard/ stairwells M/S/C Swartz/Khademi (3-0) to approve the paver project bid by Bauman Landscape, Inc. for stairwell & courtyard changes, for $41,976.50.

- Warrants #0256-9205/9262, dated 06/19/02, for $80,332.25; -9736/9757, dated 06/21/02, for $24,577.75; #0257-0336/0367, dated 06/26/02, for $38,749.68; -0980/1031, dated 06/28/02, for $203,777.67.
5.B. Payroll Certifications - May 2002 - Mid-Misc., dated 06/21/02, for $56,645.85; June 2002 - End of Month, dated 06/28/02, for $1,113,609.55; Mid Summer School, dated 07/12/02, for $18,894.51; Mid-Month, dated 07/15/02, for $8,078.47.
5.C. 2002-03 Con. App. - Part 1 - 2002-03 Consolidated Application for Funding Categorical Aid Programs - Part 1.
6. ADJOURNMENT Mr. Freiberg announced that the next regular Board meeting will be Wednesday, August 28, 2002 at 7:00 PM at Mill Valley School District Administrative Office and adjourned the meeting at 8:30 AM.
