| 1. CALL TO ORDER | The Mill Valley School District Board of Trustees, acting as the Governing Board of the Mill Valley School District, met in special session at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at Mill Valley School District Office, 411 Sycamore Avenue, Mill Valley, CA. President Freiberg called the meeting to order at 2:05 PM. |
| 2. APPEAL OF DENIAL & RECONSIDERATION OF INTERDISTRICT TRANSFER | Mr. Freiberg announced that this special meeting was to reconsider the following: the appeal of M. Fields request for Interdistrict Transfer into the Mill Valley School District for 2002-2003; and reconsideration of prior appeal approval for R. Pashmi's request for interdistrict transfer into the District for 2002-02. |
| 3. COMMUNICATIONS TO BOARD - Fields - Pashmi |
Several members of M. Fields' family spoke on her behalf regarding her appeal to attend school in Mill Valley. Following information regarding R. Pashmi's residency, length of attendance in the District and academic background presented by Superintendent Young, family members clarified the information they presented at the August 28, 2002 appeal, which resulted in misinterpretation by the Board. Based on clarifying information, the Board took the following action. |
| - Motion: reconsider Pashmi IDT | M/S/C Gensburg/Khademi (5-0) to reconsider prior approval of Request for Interdistrict Transfer into Mill Valley School District for R. Pashmi for 2002-03. |
| 4. CLOSED SESSION | The Board recessed to Closed Session at 2:40 PM to consider the above student matters, confidential information involved, pursuant to Ed. Code §35146. |
| 5. RECONVENE & REPORT OUT | Mr. Freiberg reconvened to Public Session at 3:15 PM and reported on Board actions regarding the student matters, saying that the following actions were taken. |
| - Pashmi IDT; rescind approval of appeal | M/S/C Reynolds/Gensburg (5-0) to rescind the approval of appeal of August 28, 2002 to the Board of Superintendent's denial for Request for Interdistrict Transfer for R. Pashmi (7th grade) to attend school in the Mill Valley School District for 2002-03; thereby upholding the Superintendent's denial for same, due to lack of space at grade level. |
| - Fields IDT; uphold denial | M/S/C Swartz/Khademi (5-0) to deny appeal of M. Fields (7th grade) for Interdistrict Transfer into the Mill Valley School District for 2002-03, due to lack of space at grade level. |
| 6. ADJOURNMENT | Mr. Freiberg announced that the next regular Board meeting will be Tuesday, September 24 2002 at 7:00 PM at Mill Valley School District Administrative Office and adjourned the meeting at 3:17 PM. |
