Curriculum Standards
These guides provide parents with a summary of grade level curriculum. Our goal is to clearly communicate with the student, parent and community our expectations at each grade level. The following information is included in this handbook:
Characteristics of a Successful Learner
We have included these in the development of our District standards because we feel that these goals represent lifelong learning and are specific to no one subject area and extend beyond the classroom. They have and remain a vital part of our communication with parents about your child’s learning.
Curriculum Content Standards in Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Technology, Visual Arts, Library Media Program, Foreign Language, Dance, Drama and Physical Education
They represent what we want students to know and be able to do. The standards deal with the academic knowledge and skills of expected student achievement for these subject areas at each grade level. Although much more is included in the instructional program, the student performances identify the most important basic knowledge, skills and attitudes your child should acquire. We are seeking subject literacy and expertise as well as thinking and reasoning.
Additionally, we have developed suggested student assessments that connect to the grade level content standards so that we can tell if a student knows and can meet the standard. Your child’s teacher will collect “evidence” that will demonstrate your child’s growth toward attainment of the standard. We will hold all students to these high standards. At the same time, we understand that students learn at different rates and that individual achievement can occur at different point of time. Some students will require additional time and assistance. Others will attain the standard and require more challenges.
Health Education and Performing Arts
A Health Education Curriculum is taught at grades K, 3 and 5. Health standards have yet to be completed.
