The student who is information literate:
- accesses information efficiently and effectively

- appreciates literature and other creative expressions of information

- recognizes the importance of information to a democratic society
- practices ethical behavior in regard to
information and information technology

pursue and generate information
The school library media program is not only integral to and
supportive of the school curriculum, but also provides a
mechanism for choice and exploration beyond the prescribed course
of study. The school library media program provides a wide range
of resources and information that satisfy the educational needs
and interests of students. The school library media center
provides a setting where students develop skills they will need
as adults to locate, analyze, evaluate, interpret, and
communicate information and ideas in an information-rich world.
Kindergarten students are expected to:
- Be introduced to the Library Media Center (LMC) collection and
layout
- Become familiar with parts of the book (author, illustrator,
cover, title page)
- Learn to appreciate literature through listening, observing,
responding
- Experience high quality literature and begin to identify simple
types of literature
- Begin to develop interests in specific authors and illustrators
- Begin to choose appropriate books for personal enjoyment
- Begin to understand the difference between fiction and
non-fiction
- Be introduced to the routine of check-out and check-in of
materials
- Learn to respect LMC staff and materials and follow library
procedures
- Demonstrate consideration of others while in the LMC
- Begin to recognize parts of the computer
- Learn initial computer use vocabulary
- Begin to use simple computer programs
