Physical Education Standards 2nd Grade through 5th Grade
THIRD THROUGH FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO:
- Use a variety of basic and advanced movement forms
- Use mature form in object control skills (e.g. throw, catch, hand dribble, foot dribble, kick and strike, bat, punt, pass)
- Use basic sport-specific skills
- Use mature form and appropriate sequence in combinations of fundamental locomotor, object control, and rhythmical skills that are components of selected games and sports
- Use beginning strategies for games and activities
- Use movement concepts and principles in the development of motor skills
- Use information from a variety of internal and external sources to improve performance (e.g. group projects, student journal, self-assessment, peer and coach review)
- Understand principles of practice and conditioning that improve performance
- Understand how to monitor and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness
- Engage in activities that develop and maintain cardiorespiratory endurance
- Engage in activities that develop and maintain muscular strength and flexibility
- Know the effects of physical activity and nutrition on body composition
- Know how to monitor intensity of exercise
- Meet health-related fitness standards for appropriate level of a standardized physical fitness test (e.g. aerobic capacity, body composition, muscle strength, endurance, and flexibility)
- Know the characteristics of a healthy lifestyle
