Glossary
Noble gas- Any of the elements
in Group O of the periodic table, including helium, neon,
argon, krypton, xenon, and radon, which are monatomic and
with limited exceptions chemically inert. Also called inert
gas.
Asphyxia/ asphyxiant- A
condition in which an extreme decrease in the concentration
of oxygen in the body accompanied by an increase in the
concentration of carbon dioxide leads to loss of
consciousness or death. Asphyxia can be induced by choking,
drowning, electric shock, injury, or the inhalation of toxic
gases.
Protective gas-a non-reactive
gassed for working with reactive materials
Inert gas-See noble
gas.
Radii-A line segment that joins
the center of a sphere (atom) with any point on its
surface.
Picometer- a metric unit of
length equal to one trillionth of a meter
Liquefaction-1. The process of
liquefying. 2.The state of being liquefied.
Atom-A unit of matter, the
smallest unit of an element, having all the characteristics
of that element and consisting of a dense, central,
positively charged nucleus surrounded by a system of
electrons.
