Background
info:
Polonium was discovered in 1898. It was discovered by
Piere and Marie Curie. They discovered it while seeking the
cause of radioactivity. It's atomic number is 84 and it is
named after Poland
|
Anchors:
|
Uses:
- Mixed or alloyed with beryllium to provide a
source of neutrons.
- Used for eliminating static charges, in textile mills
(B-sources are more common and less dangerous.
- Used on brushes for removing dust from photographic
films.
- Thermoelectric power in space satellites.
- Source
of
neutrons

|
History:
Polonium also called Radium F was the first element
discovered by Piere and Marie Curie. They were seeking the
cause of radioactivity of pitchblende from Joachimsthal,
Bohemia. The electroscope showed it seperating the
bisthum.

|
Reactions:
Dissolved steadily in dilute acids, but only slightly in
soluble alkalis. Can be dangerous if it is not handled
carefully, because it gives up electrons
because its valence electrons.

Color: Silvery
When solid the crystal structure of polonium is
cubic.
