Zirconium is in so many things
Maybe becuase it's always in motion!

Sources
Zirconium is found in abudance in S-type stars and has
been identified in the sun and meteorites. Analysis of lunar
rock samples obtained during the various Apllo missions to
the moon show a surprisingly high zirconium oxide content,
compared with terrestrial rocks.

Uses
Zirconium has a low absorption cross-section for
neutrons, and is there fore used for nuclear energy
applications such as claddig fuel elements. Reactors of the
commercial size, now being made, may use as much as a
half-million linear feet of zirconium.
It is used extensively by the chemical industry where
corrosive
agents are employed. Zirconium is used as a getter in
vacumcleaner tubes, as an alooying agent in steel, in
surgical appliances, photoflash bulbs, explosive primers,
and lamp filaments.
It is used in poisin iv lotions in te form of the carbonate
as it combines with urushiol. With niobium,
zirconium is superconductive at low temperatures and
is used to make superconductive magnets, which offer ope if
direct large scale generation of electric power. Zirconium
oxide (zircon) has a high index of refraction and is used as
a gem material. Also the impure oxide, zirdcoonia is used
for laboratory crucibles
that will with stand heat shock for linings of
metallurgical frnaces , and by the glass and ceramic
industries as a refractory metal.

History
The name Zirconium is thought to have come from the
Persian word Zargun, which describes the color of the
gemstone now know as zircon, jargon, hyacinth, jacinth, or
ligure. The mineral was not knon to contain a new element
until Martin Klaproth, in Germany, in 1789, analyzed a
jargon from Ceylon and found a new earth, which Werner name
zircon (silex circonius), and Klaproth called Zirkonertz (
zirconia). Although, it wasn't till

Isotopes
Naturally occuring zircon contains five isotopes,
althought fifteen other isotopes are known to exist. Zircon,
ZrSiO4, is the principal ore, is pure ZrO2
in crystalline form having a
halfnium
content of about 1%. Zirconium also occurs in
some 30 occurs in some 30 other recognized mineral species.
Zirconium is produced commercially be reduction of chloride
and magnesium
and by other methods.

Hafnium &
Zirconium
Commercial grade zirconium contains from 1-3% Hafnium. It
was finally identified in zircon from Norway, by means of
X-ray spectroscope analsis. It was named in hornor of te
city in which the discovery was made. Most zirconium
minerals contain 1 to 5% hafnium. It was originally
separated from zirconium by repeated recrystalization.

Glossary
Potassium:
A silver-white soft light low-meting unicalent metallic
element of the alkali metal group that occurs abundantly in
nature especially ombined in minerals.- link to website
Isotopes:
Any of two or more species of atoms of a chemical
element with the same number and nearly identical chemical
behavior but with differing atomic mass or mass number and
different phsical properties.
Hafnium:
Netallic element that resembles zirconium in its
chemical properties and occurs in zirconium minerals and
that readily absorbs neutrons.
Magnesium:
A silver-white light malleable ductile metallic element
that occurs abundantly in nature an is used in metallurgical
and chemical processes, in photography, signaling, and
pyrotechnics because fo the intense white linght it produces
on burning, and in construction especially in the form of
light alloys.-li.
Corrosive:
Tending or having the power to corrode.
Niobium:
A lustrous light gray ductile metallic element that
resembles tantalum chemically and is used in alloys.- link

Crucibles:
A vessel of very refractory material (as porcelain) used
for melting and calcining a substance that requires a high
dgree of heat.
