Superintendent Ken Benny

Ken Benny has served as Superintendent of the Mill Valley School District since July 1, 2005.  Prior to that, he served as a classroom teacher, principal, and district administrator for thirty-two years, most recently serving as Deputy Superintendent of the Olympia School District in the State capitol of Washington.

Ken earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Western Washington University, focused on elementary education, psychology, and educational leadership.  His first teaching position was in the rural coastal fishing community of Westport Washington , followed by several years at a variety of teaching levels in the Puyallup, Washington School District, a unified district of over 20,000 students and more than thirty-one K-12 schools.

During his administrative tenure in Puyallup, Ken served as Principal for thirteen years, Executive Director of Elementary Education, and Assistant Superintendent of K-12 Education with responsibilities for the oversight of academic programs.  Ken also served as a consultant for a nationally disseminated ‘healthy heart’ curriculum, a character education program, and has conducted numerous professional development workshops and seminars focused on leadership, coaching, and personal and professional effectiveness.

On a personal note, Ken and his wife Trudy have been happily married for over thirty years and are blessed with two terrific daughters, two sons-in-law, and two absolutely beautiful grandchildren.
