A Message from Superintendent Ken Benny

Our Community Financial Advisory Commission (CFAC) has developed and implemented best practices in financial forecasting.

We know the single most powerful influence on student learning is quality teaching, accomplished with staff development.  You support this and other planning needs through minimum days every week and six days of "Non-Student" working days.  We do not take any of this time for granted.

Our behind the scenes staff (Administrative assistants, aides, custodians, maintenance and district office staff) are amazing in their support of the mission.  Please thank them more than once a year but certainly do so during classified employees week May 17- 23.

Evidently families want to join our learning community. In 5 years we will have grown by over 400 students with an expected 2009-10 enrollment of approximately 2,650.

We just submitted a revised certified technology plan that will guide our actions for the next three years. Through District and educational partner efforts we have increased our technology inventory while replacing obsolete equipment.  Two years ago our technology infrastructure was fragile at best. Today our network up time is 99.9% on average.

There are many more blessings too numerous to mention. Please take some time to count your own blessings this week.

Sincerely,

Ken Benny

Superintendent

Board Meeting Highlights
Highlights from the Board Study Session: Facilities Master Plan

This meeting was attended by 40 community members, and public comments to the board were invited.  The presentation was an initial draft for direction from the Board, and the FMPC will continue to meet to formalize a final plan to be presented May 27th to the Board at the next Board Study Session.

Measuring Student Achievement in Multiple Ways
Beginning in second grade and conducted annually, students in school districts across California are involved in taking the California Standards Tests (CST).
Like almost every other state, our students take these tests as one way to determine how well students are achieving California's academic content standards; and how well schools and school districts across the state are succeeding toward that same goal.  Depending on your child's grade level, he or she will participate in assessments in English-Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and/or History.
An Important Message from Kiddo!

The silver lining of challenging times is that they force us to identify our priorities.  We hope you will agree that kids come first.  It is only through your generosity that we will be able to maintain the important arts and technology programs our students receive today, and save library and classroom aides from budget cuts.

Donate Today!  Make your donation to Kiddo!'s 2009 Annual Giving Campaign today and help Kiddo! save time and money, so more funding can go toward our children.  We request an annual contribution of $750 or more per student to cover the cost of programs provided.  Every donation counts and contributions at all levels are greatly appreciated.

Tam High's Mock Trial Team became the State Champions after a grueling five-round,
two-day marathon competition with 33 other County Champions in Riverside, California.
Now, representing the Great State of California, the Tam team will travel to Atlanta, Georgia the week of May 6-10, 2009 for this year's national tournament to compete among 40 state champion high school teams. Cost to prepare for and send 27 students and coaches to the National Competition is estimated to be $35,000.

There are thousands of high school mock trial teams across the country. Mock trial involves high school students trying cases in real courtrooms with real judges and juries.
Many hours of practice have gotten them this far. Now they need California's help!

Donations are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Please make checks payable to:
