specific area or method, etc. and are willing to share their skills with
other teachers.

Grade
Level Leaders:
Grade
level leaders provide orientation and on-going support to newly hired
teachers and teachers who have moved to a new grade level for the first
time.
Additionally, the grade level leader leads district-wide grade
level meetings with support from a principal liaison.

Middle
School Department Chairs
Facilitates monthly
site department meetings. Organizes
and manages textbook orders and other content specific needs such as maps,
calculators, lab equipment, art materials, etc.
Attends monthly Department Chair meeting with site administrators.
Acts as liaison between administration and teachers.

Professional
Development Coordinators:
The
professional development (PD) coordinator is a position assigned by the
school administrator/district program administrator for the purpose of
working collaboratively with staff and site administration/program
administration to develop and implement building based staff development
as a part of the school’s overall site plan.
PD coordinators also meet four times each year with District
leadership to prioritize district professional development goals and
opportunities.

Beginning
Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA) Mentor:
Beginning
Teacher Support and Assessment (BTSA), is a state-funded induction
program, co-sponsored by the California Department of Education (CDE) and
the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) designed to support the
professional development of newly-credentialed, beginning teachers and
fulfill the requirements for the California Clear Multiple and Single

National Board
Certified:
National
Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is an independent
nonprofit organization whose purpose it to advance the quality of teaching
and learning by developing professional standards for accomplished
teaching, creating a voluntary system to certify teachers who meet those
standards and integrating certified teachers into educational reform

The
Mill
Valley
School District
provides support, recognition and compensation for National Board
Certified Teachers. The
District supports National Board Candidates with a mentor and support
program facilitated by current MVSD National Board Certified Teachers.

Upon
successful completion of certification, the teacher receives a $3000
one-time stipend and an annual stipend of $1000.
