FACULTY AND STAFF

Because the MVSD is recognized for its excellence of program, staff collaboration, and strong sense of community, we are able to attract the most skilled and qualified applicants. Individuals who select the District understand their individual and collective contribution to the organization and are encouraged to continue their professional learning as well as provide leadership among their peers.

The District recognizes the commitment made by staff to work in our community. Retaining staff has become more difficult as they struggle to balance the increased state mandates on assessment and accountability with their need and the District’s support for innovation and creativity in their work. Also, teachers are managing very diverse needs of students and increased expectations of parents. Additionally, outside factors such as housing, commuting, and family circumstances have greatly impacted staff ability to remain in the community. To ensure the District future success, these issues need to be addressed.

Goal: Attract, appreciate, develop, and retain excellent faculty, administrators, and staff.

Implementation Steps:

  • Continue the District’s commitment to work toward providing a compensation package in the top quartile of comparable districts
  • Provide relevant, appropriate, and comprehensive on-going professional development
  • Create conditions that allow for staff collaboration among & across grade levels, subjects, and schools
  • Promote and measure staff continuity and satisfaction
  • Seek financial and non-financial support for staff (e.g. workforce housing, loan programs)
  • Increase opportunities for staff to share curriculum and instructional practices
  • Explore ways to have a more diverse faculty
  • Review and implement effective practices in evaluation
  • Research and integrate effective negotiation practices
  • Continue a collaborative approach in negotiations and clearly communicate the process with constituents
