Crista's Mission

I am going to tell you interesting facts about my mission, San Gabriel. First things first, my mission is the 4th mission established out of 21. It is located 120 miles north of San Diego. My mission's special name is "Pride of the Missions". The founders were Father Pedro Cambon and Father Angel Somera. The land was founded by Father Serra.

The fortress styled Mission, with capped buttress support along the outside walls, also had long narrow windows. This was copied from the Cathedral of Cordova in Spain.

Mission San Gabriel has been called the "Mother of California" as it produced more wheat than any other mission, and also produced barley, corn, beans, peas, lentils, fruits, and grapes.

The church is also a museum and it was damaged badly in the big earthquake in 1987. They did fix it eventually when they had the money but until then, they amazingly only had the parts that were not damaged open.

What stood out the most to me, was that my mission gave the most food and provided a lot of protection to people. I am proud to have this mission to study because of its two special names. One name is "Mother of California", and the other name is "Pride of the Missions".

So that is my story and I am sticking to it!
