Mission

This was a three week "I Search" project, completed both in class and home, in which students had to reflect on their own learning of their mission. The writing by each student was done at home with the help of a very organized task list. This was the first research project done this year so students used this checklist and returned their work each day to be checked by the teacher. The internet resources were located at school on Strawberry Point School Web. Here are the key questions that guided the research:

  • 1. How did the Mission get its name? What is the location of the Mission? When was it built? Who founded the Mission?
  • 2. What is a description of the architecture of the Mission? (The design, the main features, what it looks like)
  • 3. What are the main important events in the Mission's history? (You don't need to list every event...pick a few of the events that seem the most interesting to you; about 3-5. What is the most significant?)
  • 4. How is the Mission used today? Have you ever visited it in person? (Is it a museum, a church, has it been renovated or is it used for something else? Is it still standing?)
  • 5. Reflections on your learning: What did you find the most interesting about your mission? What stands out in your mind about your mission?
