A Fourth
Grade Writing Project
Strawberry
Point School
Mill Valley, California
Room 10
-- Class of Catherine
Graham
"I firmly
believe that from what I have seen, it is the
chosen spot of all this earth as far as nature is
concerned... The sunshine is pure and soft, the
mountains... are very lovely. The valley is covered
with majestic oaks placed as no human hand could
arrange them for beauty."
--
Luther Burbank, California Scientist, describing
California's beauty upon arrival in 1875

On this website,
you will take a trip and discover California's
majestic and powerful Sierra Nevadas, the vast and
ancient Mojave Desert, the rich and fertile Central
Valley and the expansive and alive Coast! This is
an ongoing yearlong writing project in which 4th
graders create hardcover books about the 4 distinct
regions of California -- coast, desert, mountain
and valley. In our books, you go on a journey to
beautiful California! Our state is such a HUGE
place. The land surface of California covers almost
100 million acres. It's the third largest of the
states; only Alaska and Texas are larger!
California is the only state in the USA to be made
up of all four regions. In our books, you get to
visit these magnificent locations and learn about
this vast area, its land forms, variety of
habitats, plants and animals. The diversity of
California is something that could take you a very
long time to discover! We hope that the sample
pieces of writing from our books will give you a
start into the wonders and magic of California!
Click below to see our expressive writing
pieces that we published for our hardcover
California Region Poetry Books!
These are written
in PDF file format... so you will need the
Adobe
Acrobat Reader
to view
these files.
