Parent involvement plays a crucial role in a child's success in school. Interaction with the community enhances the learning experience. Through planning and sharing with their peers, teachers create stimulating opportunities for learning. The school environment reflects a safe and trusting atmosphere. Students and staff promote the principles of the "Tribes" curriculum program: Attentive listening Appreciation/no put-downs The right to pass Mutual respect Teachers promote the development of social skills. Curriculum and instruction are designed to develop children's self-esteem, sense of competence and positive feelings toward learning. Each child is viewed as an individual learner. Children acquire knowledge and skills that help them learn how to learn. We value the learning process as well as the end result. We recognize that there are many different levels and styles of learning; therefore we provide a wide range of materials and teaching techniques. The content of the curriculum should be relevant, engaging and meaningful to the children. Content Standards in Literacy and Mathematics clearly define expected student performance. Learning materials and activities are concrete and encourage hands-on involvement and cooperation.
