"The Point" is a multi-page newsletter and is designed to be the primary source of information between home and school. It is sent home the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.

"Not Exactly the Point" is a one - two page newsletter that provides quick information about meetings, events, accomplishments, etc. It is mailed around the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.

Purpose

Our PTA Newsletters,"THE POINT" and "NOT EXACTLY THE POINT" serves several purposes:

  • to encourage parent involvement with the student and the school.
  • to inform every family of the PTA's goals and accomplishments.
  • to encourage attendance at PTA meetings and events and involvement in PTA projects and activities.
  • to cooperate with the school in keeping parents informed about school functions.
  • to inform the community about PTA activities and school functions.

Content

In our twice monthly newsletter, the Principal and PTA President write informative columns about upcoming and recent events at school; they share their concerns and hopes with our readers. Frequent parent education columns, offered by counselors, the school nurse and PTA parent ed. chairs, highlight our effort to advise parents about curriculum, health and parenting matters.

PTA committee chairs promote and report on their events; we include photos of events so that parents who can't be there, get a picture of what went on. Among the most enjoyable reading are articles written by students or teachers about class proceedings...parents get an opportunity to "see"inside classrooms. A very valuable section of our newsletter is our Calendar, which lists date, time and location of school and PTA events.

All material is submitted and reviewed for content by Principal and PTA Presidents. Once approved, the newsletter layout is done in Quark format and reproduced for mailing to our families and interested community members, including the District Superintendent and Board of Trustees, by the Strawberry Point Newsletter Editor.

One editor produces the newsletter, with a group of volunteers completing the mailing. We also have created an electronic version and put the complete body of THE POINT and NOT EXACTLY THE POINT online.

Brief items (1 paragraph) may be typewritten and left in the Newsletter mailbox at school or emailed to the above people.
