All medications for your child, both prescribed and over the
counter, require a special form to be completed and signed by parent
and physician before they can be administered by authorized staff.
These forms are available from the school office.
Milk for lunch may be purchased by the semester. You will
receive an order form at the beginning and middle of the school year.
Bag lunches are available to all students through the district lunch
program. You will receive a monthly menu and order form from the
school. Children of low-income families may be eligible for free or
reduced-price lunches. Please see the form in the first day packet, or
contact the school office. Additionally, the PTA sponsors a lunch
program, with ordering information sent home periodically.
Many teachers distribute room newsletters. Strawberry Point
School's newsletter, The Point is published by the PTA on alternate
Wednesdays. Every child receives a copy of the newsletter to take home
from their teacher with their homework envelope. This will be
supplemented on the off week by a one-page calendar to keep families
informed of events.
A district nurse, who spends time at all six school sites,
provides vision, hearing and scoliosis screening for all Mill Valley
school district children and can assist classroom teachers with
children with special needs. There is no school nurse on campus. For
nursing assistance and health guidance, call 380-2470.
Skateboards, rollerblades, skates, scooters and bikes are not
to be used on the playground between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on school
days. During these hours, bicycles and scooters must be walked on and
off the yard. We encourage children to lock their bicycles in the racks
provided. It is a state law that children must wear a helmet when
riding a bicycle. We encourage students to wear a helmet when riding
skateboards and/or scooters. Here are a few playground rules to go over
with your child:
Children receive physical education for 30 minutes each day.
Child health concepts and physical fitness concepts are taught. There
are monthly themes that are discussed and reviewed in class and
incorporated into the games.
Monitoring and reporting student progress is a very important
element of an effective educational program. The MVSD has developed a
comprehensive reporting system designed to provide students, parents
and teachers with a meaningful summary of student progress. There are
three progress reports given during the school year. Teacher/parent
conferences are held for two weeks in November (Students are dismissed
at 2:00pm during the conference weeks.)
The office is open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The telephone
number is 380-2490. Please limit incoming messages for children to
emergency situations only.
Notification will be sent to parents prior to any class field
trips. Every child will be protected by a seat belt on field trips
using private cars. For safety reasons, no child may sit in a front
seat that has been equipped with an airbag. Students will not be
permitted to go on class field trips without the proper forms signed by
a parent or guardian.
Kindergarten students have a class in developmental movement.
The process involves a series of motor activities designed to help the
children become more aware of themselves and their relationship to the
world around them.
Parents may review their child's student records in the
school office.
It is important to be on time. When tardy, children must
report to the school office to sign in and pick up a late slip before
going to class.
The office telephone is to be used by students only in an
emergency.
Drop off and pick up times at Strawberry Point School can
become congested. Please observe the legal rules of the road and the
Strawberry Point traffic policy. Do not leave your car unattended in
white zones. Children should wait on school property (not on the
sidewalk) to be picked up. Be considerate to other drivers and
pedestrians and set a good example for the students. See Strawberry
Point Traffic Policy for more details.
