Function
Student Council strives to
provide students with opportunities to have leadership roles in our
school and to make specific contributions to our community. Elections
of 4th and 5th grade officers including President, Vice President,
Secretary and Treasurer are held in the fall. One representative is
elected from each classroom in grades 1-5. Participating in Student
Council is a wonderful opportunity to develop a student's leadership
ability while serving the school.
Spirit Days, Activities and
Fundraisers
To encourage school spirit,
the Student Council plans spirit days and other activities. Spirit Day
themes have included coloring contests between grades, twin day, crazy
hair day, and pajama day. The activities are voted on, planned and
discussed by Student Council. This year the Student Council will hold
it's first annual Valentine's Candy Gram sale! They also intend to do a
school carnival and other fun activities!
Community Service
At Strawberry Point School,
we love to help others! We are always willing to lend a helping hand.
Student Council tries to help out the school and local community as
much as they can. They recently held a book drive which raised over 150
books for children. They also do other service projects for the local
area.
Members
Each member was voted in by
majority of student's votes. They each have respect for the school and
ideas to make it better. They all cooperate and vote on topics. They
each help plan events and functions. When voted in, the commit their
lunch recess to student council for the bi-weekly meetings.
Meetings
During meetings, the
student council listens to each other and are respectful of who is
speaking. The President leads the meetings and make sure that members
stay on task. The Secretary records what is discussed during meetings.
Then they type it up and bring it to the next meeting to read aloud.
They also type letters to go home with students. The Treasurer keeps
track of Student's Council's budget. Each event is voted on before it
is planned. Members use meeting times to plan how to spread the word
about events and fun activities.
