 A. Before and after school: Students should arrive at school no earlier than 8:00 a.m. Students are not to enter the halls before school, but should go directly to the playground where supervision is provided. On rainy days they should go to their classrooms. A crossing guard is provided before school from 8:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. at the crosswalk connecting the Strawberry Rec Center to the Strawberry Point School. All students are expected to depart from school by 3:00 p.m. unless they are participating in after-school programs. Bus service is provided after school from 2:50 to 3:15 p.m.

1. Drop-off and pick-up time at Strawberry Point School can become congested. Observe the safe and legal rules of the road. Do not leave your car unattended in White Zones. Children should wait behind the school gates (not on the sidewalk) until picked up. Do not stop in Red Zones or Crosswalks. Be considerate and safe and set a good example for the students.

B. "Drop, Don't Stop" Program: In order to alleviate some of our morning traffic congestion and improve safety around our schools for our students, last year the PTA and Site Council instituted the popular "Drop, Don't Stop" program. Parent volunteers help students out of their cars and make sure they get inside the school. The drop-off lane is located in the White Zone.

1. Student Drop-off and Pick-up Policy and Procedures: NO unattended and parked vehicles are to be parked in the White Zone in front of the school from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. and in the afternoon from 2:30 to 3:05, and 1:30 to 2:00 on early dismissal days. This facilitates orderly student drop-off and pick-up as well as emergency vehicle access.

2. Drop-off and pick-up may only occur at the White Curb Zone in order to ensure student safety and facilitate traffic flow.

3. "Follow the Leader" plan during drop-off and pick-up.
  • Drive your vehicle single file into the Parking Area to the Drop-off and Pick-up Zone in front of the school. Proceed along the Curb Zone. Stop behind the vehicle directly in front of you.
  • If your children have not come out to the Zone, simply proceed down the Zone curb lane and pull forward behind the next waiting vehicle. This allows space behind you for other vehicles to pull forward into the Zone. As vehicles in front of you drop-off or pick-up their children and depart, continue to pull forward and proceed as far forward as you can into the Zone and stop behind the vehicle in front of you
  • Once your passengers have exited or entered your vehicle, carefully pull away from the curb into the drive aisle and exit the parking area, giving right of way to vehicles pulling away in front of you, as well as incoming cars.
  • Park off the school site and walk into school grounds or park in the central parking area if you are picking up a large carpool, your child needs extra time getting in or out of the vehicle, or you need to go into the school site.
  • Do not park in marked staff parking stalls.
  • Do not park in the Red Zone or block the fire lane.

No student is to wait in front of the school buildings in the parking area drop-off and pick-up zone after 3:00 p.m.

3. The only way we can guarantee the safety of our children is for everyone to be committed to following this policy. This means that everyone must be made aware of it: all parents, babysitters, friends, all drivers, not just the ones who drive everyday but the ones who only drive occasionally as well. Please spend a few moments with your family to plan how you will implement this policy.

4. Leaving School Early: If you must pick up your child early, please sign him/her out in the office, and notify the classroom teacher. Children other than your own will only be released with prior authorization from the parent to the school office.
