Promoting teaching and learning through the effective use of "TechKNOWLEDGEy"!

The purpose of this section is to give you an overview of the development of Strawberry Point School Web! It takes a great amount of time and patience to create a quality web site rich with school content. Each year we will add more and more to it and continue to improve it in every way! Our goal is for Strawberry Point School Web to become a cornerstone for our school in helping teachers and students utilize technology effectively.

Creating a School Web Site

Step One: Conduct Online Research

  • Learn about different search tools and effective internet search strategies.
  • Review other elementary school web sites to get ideas about content to include and how to organize the entire site.
  • Get ideas about possible content to include.

Step Two: Learn How to Create A Web Page

  • Learn the web authoring program and build template web pages.
  • Understand the elements of effective design including navigation, color, layout, and content.
  • Assign expert roles (camera, scanner, graphics, etc...)

Step Three: Plan the Web Site

  • Establish overall goals, audience and purpose of website. Reach consensus on what sections to include.
  • Create a storyboard complete with navigation, graphics, etc.
  • Create a Web Task List so that the teacher can manage and assess the progress. Post it online for easy access!

Step Four: Create the Web Site

  • Work on specific assigned tasks. The student server was utilized for storage and easy access of the web site.
  • Teacher encouraged input from the administration, PTSA, and staff regarding the web site content.

Step Four: Test the Web Site

  • Before uploading to the county server, the entire web site was checked in both Netscape and Internet Explorer for a preview of links and format layout. Any necessary changes were made!

Step Five: Debut the Web Site

  • Strawberry Point School Web made its first "Official" appearance at our TechKNOWLEDGEy Casino Night in February, 2004.
  • All the computers in the entire school were set to open to the site when the browser was launched.

Step Six: Strawberry Point School Web Next Steps

  • The most important part of keeping people coming back to Strawberry Point School Web will be to keep it continually fresh and inviting!! Each year, Ms. Graham revise, update and enhance the site with input from the 4th grade students. The goal is to have more student work published and to keep the material timely! We look forward to the input from the staff, students, and community on what to add to the site!
