SUMMER LEARNING CHALLENGE
This summer, all Mill Valley School District students are invited to complete the Summer Learning Challenge. This challenge is a simple way to keep your learning skills sharp.
Starting on Monday, June 13 through Friday, August 5, keep a record of your learning on the provided calendar.
Each day, students are challenged to do one or more of the following:
- Read! Use the recommended reading from your school librarian or the Mill Valley Public Library.
- Do your iReady practice! Each week, do one 30 minute session of reading and one 30 minute session of math. If you need help logging on or for other tech related questions, you may contact ipadsupport@mvschools.org; Katie Fisher, our Instructional Technology Coach, is available to help through June 24th.
- Visit somewhere interesting! This may be an exploration outside, to a museum, the library or even the grocery store to help with adding and subtracting the cost of groceries. Here are some links that will help you find places to go.
Once you’ve chosen your learning skill for the day, mark 1, 2, or 3 on your calendar to indicate which option you chose. Everyone needs a break now and then, so feel free to miss up to five days.
If you accept this challenge, and wish to be recognized by the Superintendent and Board of Trustees for your incredible efforts, email your calendar to communications@mvschools.org, or bring in your completed calendar to the District Office at 411 Sycamore Dr. by August 31. You will earn a certificate for your efforts and participation.
- Read! Use the recommended reading from your school librarian or the Mill Valley Public Library.

Summer Reading Lists
Below are links to Summer Reading lists compiled by your MVSD school librarian team. They contain new titles and some popular series for various grade levels. Just because your child is in a certain grade does not mean they need to stick to that list. Follow your child’s lead and interests. Giving them a choice in what to read is important. All reading is beneficial: comic books, nonfiction, magazines… read aloud, listen to audiobooks…even little ones can spend ten minutes alone with books before bed.
If you are in town, visit the Mill Valley Public Library!
