At the Board of Trustees meeting on May 9, 2019, Dr. Kimberly Berman was appointed as the new Superintendent of the Mill Valley School District. Below is the notice sent to the community.
After a lengthy process of gathering stakeholder input, an extensive search, and interviews of the top applicants, the Mill Valley School District Board of Trustees is honored to announce Dr. Kimberly Berman as the next Superintendent for the Mill Valley School District.
Dr. Berman began her career in Ohio as a second grade teacher and later as a middle school language arts teacher. She then served as a Gifted Consultant to school districts in Northeast Ohio. Once she moved to California, Dr. Berman served as an Assistant Superintendent and then Superintendent for Greenfield Union School District and currently as Superintendent of Lemon Grove School District. In each of these roles, she has demonstrated compassion, dedication, and a commitment to students, families, staff, and the community.
Dr. Berman is an excellent collaborator and enjoys working with others. She is driven to constantly bring people together to improve the lives of students. She admires and respects the people with whom she works, is a lifelong learner, and embraces challenges that improve the organization.
Dr. Berman earned her Doctor of Philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Gifted and Talented Education from the University of Toledo. She is a published researcher on teacher training and differentiation, co-author of a book chapter on the origins of gifted education, and presenter both locally and nationally at the National Association for Gifted Children conference and several others. She received a Fulbright Memorial Fund Grant to study education in Japan and a Goethe Institute Grant to study in Germany. She was previously the President-Elect for the Ohio Association of Gifted Children and is currently an Advisory Board Member for FCMAT, the Fiscal Crisis and Management Team in California.
Kimberly looks forward to working with the Board of Trustees, parents, staff, and community on a shared vision of providing the very best possible educational experiences for all students.
Dr. Kimberly Berman will begin her official tenure as superintendent on July 1, 2019 upon approval at the May 9, 2019 Board of Trustees Meeting and ratification of her employment contract.
