All PG&E Power Shut Off Communications from MVSD

Mill Valley School District PG&E Power Shut Off Update - Thursday, October 10, 9:30 am

Dear Mill Valley School District Staff, Parents, and Students,



Please listen to or read all emergency messages in their entirety. The Mill Valley School District is OPEN today, Thursday, October 10th. Tam Valley School remains without power and is CLOSED. Mill Valley Middle School, Park, Old Mill, Edna Maguire, and Strawberry Point Schools are OPEN. 



All Tam Valley certificated and classified staff are reporting to work. Power could potentially be off for several days at Tam Valley, and therefore, Tam Valley School could be closed for several days. The definitive decision regarding school closure for Tam Valley for each day will be made at 5:15 am the day of school.



As stated in the update from Wednesday, October 9th at 9:30 am, emergency messaging has continued and will continue for Tam Valley staff and families on all platforms. Emergency messaging for the greater district community ended on Wednesday, October 9th at 9:30 am. Emergency messages for Tam Valley have been provided at 9:30 am, 1:30 pm, 5:30 pm, 9:30 pm, and again at 5:15 am with a definitive decision regarding school status. We know that some of you who attend our other schools do not have power at your homes, and we will reinstate the emergency messaging for all families on Friday, October 11th.

9:30 am Update, Wednesday, October 9th

Dear Mill Valley School District Staff, Parents, and Students, 

Please listen to this emergency message in its entirety. Mill Valley School District is OPEN today, Wednesday, October 9th. The following Mill Valley School District schools are open to staff and students: Park School, Old Mill, Edna Maguire, Strawberry Point School, and Mill Valley Middle School, District Office. Tam Valley School remains closed to students. Tam Valley School is our only school without power. This school site is closed for all students. All certificated and classified Tam Valley staff have reported at normally scheduled times.

 

Power could potentially be off for several days and therefore, Tam Valley School could be closed for several days. We will work to open Tam Valley School again as quickly as possible once power is restored. The definitive decision regarding school closure will be made at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019. Please know that we wish to restore normal activity as quickly as possible. Administration, classified and certificated staff shall continue to report to work. 

 

Emergency messaging will continue for Tam Valley staff and families on all platforms. Emergency messaging for the greater district community will now end. Please see our communications debrief for more information on our procedures. The emergency messaging for Tam Valley will be updated at 1:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m., 9:30 p.m. and again at 5:15 a.m. on Thursday, October 10. 

 

All other Mill Valley community will receive continued updates via email. Always check the exclamation mark in the bottom right hand corner on our website for the most up-to-date information. This information is always updated first in our process of notifications.

5:15 am Update, Wednesday, October 9th - Mill Valley School District is OPEN, except Tam Valley Elementary

Dear Mill Valley School District Staff, Parents, and Students, 

 

Mill Valley School District is OPEN, today, Wednesday, October 9th. The following Mill Valley School District schools are open to staff and students: Park School, Old Mill, Edna Maguire, Strawberry Point School, and Mill Valley Middle School, District Office. 

 

Tam Valley School is closed to students. 

 

A Public Safety Power Shut Down was expected overnight, Tuesday, October 8th. Only a portion of the Mill Valley School District was affected with power outages.

 

Tam Valley School is our only school without power. This school site is closed for all students. All certificated and classified Tam Valley staff shall report at your normally scheduled time. We will debrief you on next steps at your site starting at 8:15 a.m.  

 

Another update will be provided at 9:30 a.m.

10 pm Update, Tuesday, October 8th

Dear Mill Valley School District Community,

 

The District has been notified that PG&E may implement a Public Safety Power Shut Down overnight tonight, Tuesday, October 8th for areas to be determined. According to PG&E, power may be turned off and remain off until weather conditions improve and it is safe to restore service. Please see the most recent Nixle alert.

 

School will remain open tomorrow, Wednesday, October 9th unless power is shut down in our school district. We will provide a definitive decision about school closure at 5:15 a.m., Wednesday, October 9th through ParentSquare alerts and the district website homepage. 

According to PG&E, the likelihood of this event is high. Please make plans now. Staff, Parents and Students, if you are unable to receive messages at your home, please know we will make every effort to place a sign on your school site door for your reference in the morning. Power could potentially be off for several days and therefore, school could be closed for several days. We will work to open school again as quickly as possible once power is restored. The next and definitive decision regarding school closure or remaining open will be made at 5:15 a.m.

If you are unable to access the information, or power is out at your home, and you are unsure as to the status of school closure, your child will be excused regardless. We will do our best to broadcast the information in as many places as accessible for as long as possible. Ultimately, school will remain closed until power is restored.
