Volunteer Recognition

Superintendent Kaufman reported on the extraordinary volunteers whose dedication and service help make the Mill Valley School District thrive. Special recognition was given to the many individuals and organizations that contribute their time, talents, and expertise in support of students, staff, and schools throughout the district. The report highlighted the invaluable work of the district’s PTA and ITAV groups, Kiddo!, classroom and garden volunteers, Site Councils, finance committees, the Safety and Wellness Committee, DEI groups, bond oversight committee, and Measure E Parcel Tax Committee and its volunteers. Superintendent Kaufman also acknowledged the district’s hardworking Board of Trustees for their leadership, commitment, and countless hours of service on behalf of students, staff, and families. Together, these volunteers, community partners, and trustees were recognized as essential to the district’s continued success and the exceptional educational opportunities available to Mill Valley students

Student Learning and Programs

Director of Educational Services Kate Sprague presented the District’s Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and Local Indicators Overview, highlighting progress toward district goals, student outcomes, and areas of continued focus. The presentation reviewed the state-required local indicators and provided an overview of the strategies, actions, and expenditures designed to support student achievement, engagement, and well-being. Following the presentation, the Board conducted a public hearing to receive community input on the LCAP. The LCAP was approved at the June 18, 2026 meeting.

Business & Financial

Assistant Superintendent Paula Rigney presented the District’s 2026–2027 Preliminary Budget, providing an overview of projected revenues, expenditures, and the financial assumptions underlying the spending plan for the coming fiscal year. Following the presentation, the Board conducted a public hearing to receive community input on the proposed budget. The budget was adopted at the June 18, 2026 Board meeting.

Facilities

Laura Knauss and Mark Jewell of Lionakis presented a design development update on the Middle School Renovation Project, providing the Board with an overview of the project's design progress and key elements. The presentation highlighted refinements made during the design development phase and updates on the timelines, design priorities, and next steps.
