The best thing you can do for your child this summer is simple: READ!
The MVSD librarian team has curated summer reading lists. These lists contain recent publications, but there are so, so many wonderful books and series for kids today.
Please view these lists for ideas, but follow your child’s lead and keep in mind:
- Choice is everything: Summer reading is not homework. Letting your child choose what to read is the most important factor in keeping them engaged.
- All reading counts: Whether your child reads independently or listens to you read aloud, they will benefit tremendously.
- Format does not matter: Fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, audiobooks, and e-books are all fantastic options. It is all reading, and it all matters!
- Brain benefits: Reading for pleasure strongly supports mental health and creativity. Reading fiction develops empathy, verbal abilities, and general cognitive function.
Remember to visit the Mill Valley Public Library and take advantage of their incredible summer programming.
Happy reading, and have a wonderful summer break!
