Mark Nelson, Assistant Principal, believes that students perform best in a welcoming and safe learning environment. He strives to be supportive of all students and teachers through being visible in classrooms, hallways, lunch, and recess. Building relationships with students, staff, parents, and community members is extremely important to him, and he works hard each day to advocate in the best interests of all students. Mark's passion for leadership developed through a decade of teaching experience.
Prior to becoming an administrator, Mark taught 8th grade U.S. History and English in the San Diego Unified School District. He has worked with youth for over 20 years, first serving as a youth leader and summer camp counselor. A native of the Pacific Northwest, Mark grew up in Beaverton, OR, before graduating from Gonzaga University with B.A. in History and a Secondary Education Teaching credential. While he is supportive of the local teams, he is proud fan of the Portland Trailblazers, Portland Timbers fan, and his beloved Gonzaga Bulldogs basketball.
Away from work, Mark spends his time with his wife (also a teacher) and two young sons who are four and two years old.
